Kassandra

Kassandra is the place we call home, the place where our family started its first bakery. Endowed with unparallel natural beauty, Kassandra combines the lush greenery of pines with the emerald blue of the sea. Its coastline has impressive variation, as it consists of small rocky inlets as well as long sandy beaches with crystal clear water. The Kassandra ridge is equally stunning, with dense pine forests, several ravines, streams and a pond. Mavrobara, a location near Polyhrono, offers refuge to three different rare types of the European sea turtle and has been branded as a natural monument since 1997. The natural landscape is enhanced by olive groves, farming fields and fruit trees. Kassandra, the westernmost peninsula of Chalkidiki, has a rich history and plenty of cultural sites. According to mythology, Enceladus, the giant that was said to be the cause of earthquakes, is buried here. The history of the region begins in 8th century BC, when the first settlers arrived from Chalkida and Eretria. Soon the settlements developed into towns, among which the most significant ones in the 5th Century B.C. were Potidea, Sani, Skioni and Mendi, where the famous Mendian wine was produced. Kassandra experienced many attacks and counts the Romans and the Ottomans among those who occupied it throughout its history. The battle of Kassandra on October 30 1821 is an event of historical significance. Captain Hapsas and his army clashed with the far bigger army of Mehmet Emin Pasha and was defeated. Nowadays, Kassandra has approximately 17,000 inhabitants. It is a popular tourist destination that offers a wealth of experiences and events, with the Kassandra Festival standing out among them. For us, it will always be home to our childhood memories, the place where we took our first steps as a family company. This is why we always take care to align every single business endeavour with outcomes that have multiple benefits for the people and the ecosystem of Kassandra.
